April 14: So far we’ve only seen Red Tail Hawks attempting to rebuild their nest from last year, a few trees down from the Great Horned Owl nest. They come and go so should be interesting to see if they continue. As our Swainson’s Hawks didn’t succeed last year, I’m wondering if they will return and try again. I hope so. We still see the odd Rough Legged Hawk. They should be going north soon.
August 17: We have been able to view our 2 Swainson’s Hawk chicks through the telescope from our living room. It was not possible to see them from below the nest as it is too deep. A few days ago, they started branching and flying off the nest. They are still coming back for their meals! It’s scary to see them sitting on the road.
