As you see I’ve had lots of enjoyment watching and photographing the many White Tailed Deer we see at our place, winter and summer. Over the years there have been many fawns, doe’s with 1, 2 and even 3 fawns at once.
2024 – During the winter and early spring the deer tend to herd together.
2023 – We had a few more fawns this summer. In June we spotted a doe with no tail and trauma to her hind quarters. I can only speculate as to what happened to her. I suspect she was attacked while giving birth. We did discover later on that she did have a fawn and were so pleased. We named her “No Tail”. Amazingly she healed up well and has been hanging around most of the autumn. The deer were helping themselves to the water in the bird bath again. We saw a Mule Deer buck recently, first time ever seeing Mule Deer here.
2022 – saw our 1st fawn on June 7
2021 – This summer we’ve only had 1 fawn.
2020 – We only had 2 deer families this summer. We witnessed one doe giving birth to twins, but never saw her with twins again, so she must have lost one. The other doe only had 1 fawn. Again the deer helped themselves to water from the bird bath. This year they had to share it with the fox.
2019 – lots of fawns this year. We even watched 1 that had lost his mum and got reunited a few days later. She accepted him right away, he immediately suckled.
2018 – There weren’t many fawns this year. We are seeing lots of deer in the winter.
