We see a few variety of hawks every year. Swainson’s Hawks have nested in our trees almost every year since we’ve been here. They usually come back to the same nest. Not sure what they’ll do this year as the owls have taken over their nest.
Turns out they build a new nest a few trees down from the old one. The 3 chicks hatched at the end of June.The chicks left the nest on August 5th and 7th. They lived here until August 17, 2 died, one was taken to the Alberta Birds of Prey Center for rehabilitation – all hit by vehicles. This is so sad after watching them hatch and grow into beautiful birds.
