We have lived here for almost 11 years and rarely see Blue Jays. In the past 2 days saw 1 yesterday and 2 today feeding on our feeder. It was still a bit dark so it was hard to get good photos, I managed 3 out of many. When the snow came, so did the Grouse. We still see the Northern Flickers, this one’s a female.
Waldy also took down that wasp nest and as it was up against the house, the back of it was open (no wasps in residence, workers are dead the the queen has left to find a cozy place to rest during the winter). It is really interesting to see how they build the nest.
Note: I wish I could control what photos shows up on the post page, I know the title says Blue Jays but it shows the wasp nest… sorry.

Very nice photos. This summer we’ve had up to 6 Blue Jays – don’t get too many either. The past week a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker has been pecking away on our Mountain Ash tree. The wasp nest would look nice hung out somewhere. Because it’s fragile, we had sprayed ours with hairspray.
Beautiful and so unusual….love those Blue Jays! And NOT the baseball team.

BlueJays, we’ve got a huge flock of them. They are about all we’ve got, seems that all the birds that were here all summer have beat a hasty path to somewhere else. Feeders have been kept full all summer as we usually do and enjoy the different birds but the only Happy Campers are the chipmunks. We had 2 rabbits but the coyotes got them. I think grass cutting and the gardens are done for this year. We’ve applied for a burn permit to take care of the pile of brush and the like that is sitting near the garage. Not much work again and it seems ok but have to admit I do miss getting up and going somewhere a few times/week. We’ve had very good weather so far this Fall, sky is almost clear and 14degC. How long was that dumping of snow around?
There are still a few patches of snow where the deep drifts are but basically gone. It’s not been very warm.
