The other day I saw this very small bird way up in one of our trees. A bit too far away to take a decent photo, but I took one anyway. I cropped it so it’s a bit fuzzy. It’s a Northern Shrike – 1st time I’ve seen one of these here. So a new bird to add to my birds page… click here to view.
Sometimes it’s like the old west in our area. We often see cattle drives down our highway.
There was at least 30 Grouse and Partridges feeding on spilled grain by our grain bin. I’ve never seen them group together like this.

Love the Old West pics. You’re so lucky to have so many Grouse and Partridges – it’s those silo bins with the grain – they just love that. Don’t let the size of the Shrike fool you – they, like the hawks & owls, go after other birds as well. I always enjoy watching what’s happening at “12 Acres”.
Hello, nice to see there are still “cattle drives”. I wonder did they breakout from somewhere? We have had a good dumping of snow but it has been and will be for a few more days, mild temps that will melt most of it away.
No, they didn’t break out.. they are probably just being moved to their winter pasture.
